Professor Clement Somuah draws from over three decades of a successful career in Education, Industrial, and Consultancy experience in Information Technology and Computer Science as he currently serves as the President of the Christ Apostolic University College (CAUC). Prof. joined CAUC in 2014 as the Dean of School of Technology and acting Vice President. He became the President of CAUC in 2018.
Prof. Clement Somuah attended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and was the first person to graduate with a BSc 1st Class in Electrical Engineering in 1972. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (MIT). At MIT he obtained his Master’s, Engineer, and Doctorate Degrees in 1975, 1977, and 1979, respectively. Prof. Somuah worked at the General Electric Research and Development Centre in the USA as a Research Engineer. He left the USA for Saudi Arabia to take up a teaching appointment at the University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran in 1981.
When he returned to Ghana, he became the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Computer Systems Co. Ltd. from 1989 to 1999.
Prof. Clement Somuah joined the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2004 as the first Dean of the School of Technology (SOT) and was instrumental in making the School one of the best in Ghana in ICT and Computer Science.
He has served as an Information Technology consultant for several organizations in Ghana including the Bank of Ghana, Commercial Bank, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, and the Ministry of Education. He has worked as a consultant on several projects funded by UNDP, World Bank, WHO, EU, DFID, and the ECOWAS Commission.
He has been a Board member of several organizations including the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He has served as a Board member for the International Partnership Board of African Enterprise headquartered in South Africa. He is currently a Board member for the SSNIT subsidiary RSS Developers Ltd. Prof. Somuah served as the chairman of the Socio-Economic Development Board of the Ghana Baptist Convention and member of the Executive Committee for 10 years and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ghana Baptist Convention.
He serves as a University Council member for 3 Universities in Ghana. Prof. Somuah is currently an External Examiner for several Universities including KNUST for the MSc and Ph.D. programmes in Computer Science. He has served as Chairman of the National Accreditation Board (NAB) Visitation Panel in the accreditation of Computer Science and ICT programmes for 15 Universities in Ghana.
